Why Is My Freezer Frosting? Causes and Fixes

A thin coating of frost after weeks of use is usually manageable. Thick ice on drawers, frozen food packs or the back wall is another matter. Hot food releases steam, and that steam becomes ice. Covering food well also helps prevent freezer burn and keeps odours from spreading.

Check the temperature setting

Possible causes include a faulty defrost heater, sensor, thermostat, timer or control board. A blocked drain can also allow melted water to refreeze.
